Anisul, Atiqul remanded in separate cases

DHAKA, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former law minister Anisul Huq and former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam on different terms of remand in two separate cases filed with Mohammadpur and Badda Police Stations respectively.

Of the two, Anisul was placed on a three-day remand in a case filed over the attempt to kill rickshaw-van puller Insan Ali in Mohammadpur area during the student-led July-August mass-uprising. Atiqul on the other hand, was placed on a four-day remand in the case lodged for killing Sohagh Miah in Badda area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the orders as police produced them before the court and pleaded to place them on five-day and 10-day remand respectively in the two cases.

Public prosecutor Omor Faruk Faruki took part in the hearing for the state.

According to the case documents, Insan Ali was going through Mohammadpur Bus Stand area on his rickshaw-van on July 19, when he got shot. He was rushed to nearby hospital, where he took treatment. His mother on November 13 filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station against 266 people.

Sohagh Miah was also got shot and killed on July 19 in front of the Badda Fuji Tower. His mother filed the case against 179 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
