KERANIGANJ, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's political advisers Amanullah Aman today expressed hope that the interim government would hold elections soon after completing necessary reforms.

“Elections should be held as soon as possible after necessary reforms,” he said while speaking as chief guest at the annual sports competition programme of Nayabazar High School here this morning.

“I had been elected member of parliament (MP) for four times through elections held under caretaker government. This time the interim government would hold election and people would cast their vote as per their choice,” said the BNP leader.

He said the people could not exercise their voting right in 2014 and 2018.

The voting activities have already begun and the voter list is being updated, said Aman.

Remembering the anti-government movements, the BNP leader said, “We had been struggling for the last 16 years under the leadership of BNP’s acting chairman Tareque Rahman.  After the 16 years agitation, mass upsurge took place through the students-people protest,” he added

“We have got again a new Bangladesh at the cost of lives of several thousand students and people who sacrificed their life during July-August revolution in 2024,” said the BNP leader.

Recalling the role of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman I Liberation War, Amanullah Aman said the armed struggle was begun in the country through declaration of independence made by former President Ziaur Rahman from Kalurghat radio station in Chattogram.

With Assistant commissioner (land) of Keraniganj revenue circle Jannatul Mawa in the chair, the programme was also attended, among others, by Keraniganj Model Upazila BNP senior vice-president Shamim Hasan, senior joint secretary Manirul Huq Monir, Keraniganj Model Upazila Jubodal convenor Asaduzzaman Ripon, Jubodal leader Masud Rana and Dhaka district Swechasebak Dal senior joint secretary Waliullah Selim.
