ACC sues ex-state minister Abdul Wadud, 7 others over graft allegations

DHAKA, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former state minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives Abdul Wadud and his wife Monowara Begum and seven others for embezzling Taka 4 crore and 20 lakh from Uttara Finance and Investment Limited by abusing power and resorting to fraud.

ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam told newsmen that two cases were filed against them today.

Seven others were also implicated in these cases. The accused are : Managing Director of Uttara Finance and Investment Limited SM Shamsul Arefin, the former State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives, Chairman of Bengal Gas Limited and Managing Director of Kazi Energy Resources Limited, Md Abdul Wadud, Chairman of Kazi Energy Resources Limited and Director of Bengal Gas Limited Monowara Begum, Managing Director of Bengal Gas Limited Gaus Mohammad Hasan Zahid, Former Vice-President and Head of Treasury of Uttara Finance and Investment Limited Mohammad Main Uddin, Former Vice President of Uttara Finance and Investment Limited Kazi Arifuzzaman, Former Assistant Vice-President of Uttara Finance and Investment Limited SM Quamruzzaman and Former Officer of Uttara Finance and Investment Limited Mithu Kumar Saha.
