All set to begin Ekushey Book Fair in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 30, 2025 (BSS) - Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2025” commemorating great Language Movement of 1952 is set to begin in the port city from February 1. 

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is organizing the 26-day fair in cooperation with Chattogram Creative Publishers' Council (CCPC) at M A Aziz Stadium Gymnasium premises.

Housing, Public Works and Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan is scheduled to inaugurate the fair.

CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossen at a press briefing at the fair venue today announced the preparations and various events of the fair.

He said the fair will have a beautiful stall named Shaheed Zia Smrithi Pathagar. On the occasion, programmes will be arranged to promote Bengali literature and culture and exhibit glory of historic Language Movement.

Other features of the event are- Nazrul Utsab, Rabindra Utsab, Youth Utsab, writers gathering, Liberation War Utsab, lyric and poetry Utsab, poetry recitation, women ustab, ethnic utsab, professional’s gathering, folklore dance, cultural functions and award giving ceremony.

Series of thematic discussion will be held on historic Language Movement, literature and culture, spirit of the anti-fascist and democratic movement. 

Writers, litterateurs, intellectuals, poet, academics and Freedom Fighters will participate in the discussions. 

Ekushey Honorary Medal and Literary Award will be given to eminent personalities for their outstanding contributions to the society in different fields.

A total of 144 stalls have been allocated to renowned publication houses from Dhaka and Chattogram.

CCC’s Chief Executive Officer and the convener of the Book Fair Committee Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam, Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Amin, journalists leader Zahidul Karim Kachi, Shamsul Haq Haidari, Mohammed Shah Nowaz and Mustafa Nayim and CCPC’s President Shahabuddin Ahmed Babu were present.
