Travel ban imposed on ex-MPs, Shaown, Ratan, wives

DHAKA, Jan 30, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today imposed 
travel ban on former two lawmaker and their wives over graft 
allegations, briberies and abuse of power.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib 
passed the order, allowing a plea from the Anti-Corruption 
Commission (ACC) Director Abdul Mazed.

The court imposed the ban on former Member of Parliament 
(MP) from Bhola-3 constituency Nurun Nabi Chowdhury alias 
Shaown and his wife Farzana Chowdhury, former MP of 
Sunamganj-1 constituency Moazzem Hossain Ratan and his 
wife Mahmuda Hossain Lota.

According to the case documents, the anti-graft body has been 
probing allegations of amassing huge wealth beyond known 
sources in his and family members' names through corruption, 
bribery and abuse of power. 

The case documents said there is a possibility to find 
preliminary proof over the allegations. 

It said based on secret information, the accused have been 
trying to flee the country.

Application was sent to the Immigration Police on January 27 
on behalf of the ACC to block them from leaving the country.
