Ex-MP Solaiman Salim, former ward councillor Ranjan remanded

DHAKA, Feb 3, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former lawmaker Solaiman
Salim and former ward councillor Ranjan Biswas on a two-day remand each in a
case lodged over attempt to murder varsity student Anik during the student-
led July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the order as police
produced seven accused before the court and pleaded to place them on a five-
day remand each.

According to the case documents, Jagannath University student Anik joined
anti-discrimination rally on July 16. As the rally reached in front of Dhaka
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, cadres of Awami League and its front
organisations opened fire. Anik got shot and was rushed to Dhaka Medical
College Hospital. The case was filed in this connection on November 21
against 253 people.
