Ex-law minister Anisul placed on 3-day remand in murder case

NARAYANGANJ, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered a three-day 
remand for former law minister Anisul Huq in connection with the murder of 
Ashik, who was killed during the anti-discrimination student movement in 
Sonargaon of the district. 

Senior Judicial Magistrate Noor Mohammad Mohsin issued the order this morning 
after police sought a five-day remand for the former minister, Court Police 
Inspector Md. Qayum Khan said.

During the anti-discrimination student-people movement on August 4, worker 
Ashik Mia was shot on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Kanchpur, Sonargaon. Later, 
he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in critical 
condition and died on August 8 while undergoing treatment.

In this incident, Ashik Mia's mother Kulsum Begum filed a murder case with 
Sonargaon Police Station, naming 112 people including former law minister 
Anisul Huq and 300 unknown people as accused. 

Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina was named as the main accused in the 
case.
