6 remanded in Dania College student Minhaz killing case

DHAKA, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed six accused on different 
terms of remand in a case lodged over murder of Dania College student Minhaz 
last month.

The remanded accused are Mahfuz Sarkar alias King Mahfuz, Md Jahidul Bhuiyan 
Shaon, Md Sabbir Sarkar, Md Ashik, Md Kawser Miah and Shah Alam.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the order as police 
produced the six accused before the court and pleaded to place them on a six-
day remand each in the case.

Of the six, Mahfuz was placed on a five-day remand, while the others were 
placed on a three-day remand each.

Police in separate drives on January 31 arrested the accused from different 
areas of Patuakhali.

According to the case documents, Minhaz, an honors final-year student of the 
college, engaged in an argument with Mahfuz and his cronies on January 26. As 
Minhaz went to the college on January 28, the accused started stabbing and 
hacking him indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured. 

Later, he succumbed from his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital 
(DMCH).

Minhaz's brother Abdullah Al Mamun filed the case with Jatrabari Police 
Station against nine accused, and 10-12 unnamed others.
