Travel embargo imposed on Anisul's confidante Taufiqa

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on Taufiqa Karim, allegedly a confidante and cashier of former law minister Anisul Huq.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Deputy director Md Jahangir Alam of ACC filed the plea with the court.
 
The anti-graft body in its plea said they have already formed team to probe huge allegations of graft and irregularities against former law minister Anisul Huq and his friend Taufiqa Karim. It allegedly found evidences of corruption and exchange of money in appointment, transfer and posting at different offices under law ministry in the past.
 
Taufiqa is accused of buying a house in the Basundhara Residential Area at a cost of Taka 6.33 crore, which was earned illegally. She has more than Taka 23 crore in different accounts of United Commercial Bank and Citizen's Bank Limited. Taufiqa has alleged investment of Taka five crore in Citizen's Bank. So, for the proper investigation, a travel ban should be imposed on her, the ACC plea said.
