DHAKA, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) - A court here has imposed a travel ban on former MP AKM Sarwar Jahan from Kushtia-1constituency and his wife Mahmuda Siddiqa.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib today passed the order, responding to an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), ant-graft watchdog of the state.

In the application the ACC stated that the accused Mahmuda Siddiqa abused the power of her husband AKM Sarwar Jahan to gain her narrow personal financial benefits and acquired assets inconsistent with the known source of income.

Earlier, the ACC sued them over corruption charges and the case is now being investigated, it said during the hearing of the petition before the court.

The reliable sources said the accused Mahmuda Siddiqa and her husband Sarwar Jahan are trying to flee the country by handing over their illegally acquired property, the ACC officer claimed.

It is absolutely necessary to impose ban on their traveling abroad for the sake of a fair investigation of the case, the investigation officer added.
