ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, March 9, 2025 (BSS) - Students of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia today staged a protest demanding punishment of the rapist of a seven-year-old girl in Magura.

They also blockaded the Khulna-Kushtia highway for half-an-hour in support of materializing their demands.

The students gathered at the university's 'Bottola' area at 12:00 pm and brought out a protest rally with over a hundred students. They paraded the main roads of the campus chanting slogans demanding punishment of the culprits who were involved in the heinous act.

Later, they proceeded towards the main entrance and there they blockaded the highway.

IU student Sadia Mahmud Mim said, "The rape incident of a little child is shameful for our society. She is like a younger sister to all of us. She was raped and tortured by her own close relatives in a beastly manner. We demand exemplary punishment of these rapists so that no one dares to commit such heinous acts in future".

Mim continued that ensuring exemplary punishment for rapists will reduce the number of rape incidents in the country.

Students against discrimination coordinator SM Sweet said, "The entire Bangladesh has risen in protest today over the rape of our sister. Students in various campuses are voicing their outrage."

"We demand that these beasts be given the death penalty. During the July Movement, women were at the forefront. Women have always been at the front in any just movement. But today, they feel the most insecure," she added.
