5 dacoits arrested with locally-made weapons in Old Dhaka

DHAKA, March 09, 2025 (BSS) - Police in a drive have arrested five notorious dacoits and recovered locally-made weapons from different areas of Old Dhaka.  

The arrestees were indentifies as Md Sakib (19), Md farhan Khan (18), Salman Ahmed (18), Md Zihan Ahmed (18) and an underage boy, according to the Kotwali police.

A team of Kotwali police under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a series of operations at the Bangshal police station area and the underground area of Babubazar Bridge at 11:10pm last night and arrested them, the police said.

During the operation, police recovered two sharp machetes, a lethal automatic knife, a wrench, and four specialized weapons locally manufactured using bicycle chains and discs.

The police said they got information that a group of criminals numbering around 10 to 15 had gathered at Tipu Sultan Point under the Babubazar Bridge area to commit dacoity in the city.

Based on the information, a raid was conducted at the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the gang of criminals attempted to flee, but the police managed to arrest them.
