Female apparel worker dies in city road accident

DHAKA, March 10, 2025 (BSS) - A female apparel worker was killed and another
one injured in a road accident in the city's Banani Chairman Bari area this
morning.

The deceased was identified as Minara Akhter and the injured was Sumaiya
Akhter who was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital.

Local people said garment worker Minara was killed on the spot while a speedy
truck hit her as she was crossing the road around 6am today.

"A garment worker was killed when she was crossing the road in the area,"
said Rasel Sarker, officer-in-charge (OC) of Banani Police Station.

Over the death of their female colleague, the readymade garment workers have
blocked all adjacent roads around the Banani Chairman Bari.

Protesting the road mishap, the apparel workers have blocked both sides of
the road after the accident. As a result, severe gridlock has been created in
the city's Banani, Mohakhali, Gulshan and Kakoli areas, the OC said, adding,
"They have also brought traffic to a halt on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway."

"The traffic movement is now being halted due to the protest of the apparel
workers," said Md Mofudul Islam, deputy police commissioner (DC) of Traffic-
Gulshan Zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Traffic diversion is underway to avoid sufferings of the city dwellersl, he
added.
