Palak, 2 others remanded in Riaj killing case

DHAKA, March 12, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on a three-day remand and two other leaders of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Dhaka University (DU) wing on a four-day remand each in a case lodged over the murder of one Riaj in the city's Dhanmandi area during the anti-discrimination student movement.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zunaid passed the order as police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to place them on a five-day remand each.
 
The two other remanded accused are-- BCL Surjo Sen Hall unit general secretary Siam Rahman and BCL Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall unit president Anwar Hossain Nayeem.
 
According to the case documents, Riaj joined an anti-discrimination student movement rally in Dhanmandi area on August 4. He got shot and died of his injuries later. Riaj's mother Shafia Begum filed the case on September 10 with Dhanmandi Police Station.
