Salehuddin condoles death of Syed Manzur Elahi

DHAKA, March 12, 2025 (BSS) - Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the country's prominent businessman and Chairman of Apex Group Syed Manzur Elahi.

Syed Manzur Elahi, the prominent businessman and chairman of Apex Group and also former Adviser to the caretaker government, passed away at a hospital in Singapore this morning. He was 83.

 He passed away around 7:31 am (Bangladesh Time) today while undergoing treatment in Singapore.

In a message of condolence, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, also the Adviser on the Ministry of Science and Technology , prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Syed Manzur Elahi was the founding chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB). He ran a leading business conglomerate in Bangladesh, and has won various awards for his contributions to trade and industry including the "Business Executive of the Year 2000" by the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), Bangladesh and the "Business Person of the Year 2002" award.

Besides, being an eminent industrialist, he was also appointed Adviser to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, twice (1996 and 2001).
