CPD family mourns death of its board member Syed Manzur Elahi

DHAKA, March 12, 2025 (BSS) - The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has deeply shocked and saddened at the death of its board member eminent business leader and former adviser to the caretaker government Syed Manzur Elahi.

In a condolence message, CPD mentioned that Syed Manzur Elahi was a well-wisher of CPD and was actively involved in its various activities.
 

He was a member of the Citizen's Committee during the "Honest and Competent Candidate Campaign" launched by the CPD in 2006.
 
Under this initiative, CPD prepared the 'Vision 2021' document for which we received his valuable input and guidance.
 
His suggestions enriched CPD's work, and he frequently chaired CPD dialogues, where his insightful comments stimulated thoughtful discussions among participants.
 
His bold and perceptive opinions inspired many people, so his absence will create a significant void in the business sector, the message read.
 
CPD has lost a guardian and leader who steered it through his profound wisdom and progressive insights. CPD family expressed sincere condolences to his bereaved family. They prayed for peace of the departed soul of Syed Manzur
Elahi.

Elahi, chairman of the Apex Group and the founding chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB), was a pillar in the business community of Bangladesh.
 
His remarkable journey in trade and industry was marked by profound leadership and innovation, which positioned the Apex Group as a leading business conglomerate nationally and internationally.
 
Besides being an eminent industrialist, he was also appointed adviser to the caretaker government of Bangladesh twice (1996 and 2001) for his leadership qualities, professionalism and non-partisanship.
 
In addition to his significant corporate roles across the Apex Group, Elahi's extensive contributions covered various educational and financial institutions.
 
He was a beacon of guidance and inspiration, deeply involved in shaping policies and fostering growth across multiple sectors.
 
He also served as a director of International Publications Limited, the parent company of one of the English National Dailies "The Financial Express".
