DHAKA, March 12, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Zainul Abedin Farroque today said if general election is delayed in name of state reforms, the ousted Awami cohorts will get changes to hatch conspiracies to make the country unstable.

"Reforms are necessary and those must be carried out . . . but delaying the elections in the name of reforms will harm the country. The Awami League’s ghosts will seize the opportunity and strike at their convenient time. This cannot be allowed to happen," he said.

The BNP senior leader was speaking at a rally, organized by the Ganatantra Forum in front of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here to protest violence against women, oppression, rape, online-harassment, deterioration of law and order situation and lack of justice across the country.

Mentioning that the recently launched ‘National Citizen Party (NCP)’ has submitted a plan to the government to hold the Constituent Assembly (Ganaparishad Nirbachan) and National Parliamentary elections, the former opposition chief whip said, “As a political activist, I will tell the interim government to hold a neutral national election to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bangladesh, rather a Constituent Assembly one.”

After the election, the elected persons will go to the parliament and implement the reforms through discussions, he added.

With Ganatantra Forum President Khalilur Rahman VP Ibrahim in the chair, Krishak Dal leader Abdullah Al Naeem conducted the rally.

Tanti Dal leader Kazi Moniruzzaman Monir, Krishak Dal leaders Jahangir Alam, Kader Siddique and Mominur Rahman Sujan and Ganatantra Forum leader Ismail Hossain Siraji addressed the rally, among others.
