CHATTOGRAM, March 12, 2025 (BSS) – Accusing some political parties for hatching conspiracy to delay election, BNP Central Vice-Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan today said that any attempts to delay the elections would be “very harmful” for democracy and the country’s economy.

“We believe that we cannot sacrifice our national interests for the sake of a few party’s interests...At this moment, prolonging the elections means sacrificing the national interests,” he said at a press briefing at the city’s International Convention Hall in Kazir Dewri area.

Earlier, BNP Chattogram divisional unit that was formed to supervise the organization matters held a view-exchange meeting with the presidents and general secretaries of BNP and its affiliate organizations in 11 districts of Chattogram division.

Ahmed Azam Khan said they are noticing that some political parties are sitting side by side in the name of Ifter Mahfil with the allies of ousted fascist forces.

He urged all political parties not to make any irresponsible statements that will destroy national unity and the progress of democracy in future.

"In the last seven months, we have noticed that reforms are progressing at a very slow pace. Some proposals for reforms have been submitted, but not a single meeting has been held yet to implement them and no dialogue has even started within the government on the process," he said.

He urged the Interim government not to delay the election process in the name of reforms.

Ahmad Azam Khan said BNP and other political parties have supported globally acclaimed Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus in forming the government in post uprising time and now the nation hopes that he would not lose the golden opportunity to uphold his dignity and image.

He said the government of Prof. Muhammad Yunus should hand over power to an elected government after holding a free and fair election.

BNP Central Chattogram Divisional Organizing Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim presided over the function which was moderated by Central Joint-Organizing Secretary Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin.

Central Joint Organizing Secretary Harun-ur-Rashid, Jubo Dal Central President Abdul Monayem Munna, Swecchasebak Dal Central General Secretary Rajib Ahsan and Chhatra Dal Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, among others, addressed the function.
