DHAKA, March 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has
arrested Accounting Officer Md. Sheriquzzaman and Auditor Md. Hannan in
Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon district red-handed while taking bribe.

ACC Assistant Director Tanjir Ahmed said that the ACC conducted this trap
case following the complaint of retired security guard Md. Abdul Hamid of
Gedura Union Health and Family Welfare Center in Haripur upazila.

He said Abdul Hamid applied to the Upazila Accounting Officer's office on
February 5 to get retirement benefits. But the auditor Md. Hannan of the
concerned office and Upazila Accounting Officer Md. Sheriquzzaman demanded a
bribe of Taka 30,000 for processing his file, which was later settled at Taka
22,000.

When he reported the matter to the Anti-Corruption Commission, Thakurgaon
office, the commission decided to file a trap case to catch him red-handed
while accepting the bribe.

As planned, the Anti-Corruption Commission officials arrested Md. Hannan
while he was taking Taka 5,000 out of Taka 22,000. At the same time, the
Upazila Accounting Officer Md. Sheriquzzaman was also arrested as the main
mastermind of this activity.

The ACC said legal action is underway against the officials concerned in this
