DNCC to engage 5,500 volunteers in mosquito control drive

DHAKA, March 17, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will engage some 5,500 volunteers to build mass awareness about the spread of Aedes mosquitoes during the upcoming monsoon season.

“As part of the awareness building campaign, we will engage 5,500 volunteers to control mosquitoes during the upcoming monsoon season,” DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz said here today.

Addressing a round table titled "Preparations and actions to prevent dengue" at Nagar Bhaban, he said there is no alternative to raise mass awareness in mosquito control.

“Therefore, we will give utmost importance to increase mass awareness in this regard. Apart from this, modern mosquito traps will be installed in public places by DNCC,” Ejaz said.

He said that anti-mosquitoes pesticides would be tested in a neutral lab to check effectiveness of the pesticides to be used by DNCC to kill mosquitoes.

Among others, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abu Sayeed Md Kamruzzaman, Chief Engineer Brig. Gen. Md Moin Uddin, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore ABM Shamsul Alam, representatives from various organizations and other senior officials were present at the roundtable.
