DHAKA, April 6, 2025 (BSS) - The World Health Day-2025 will be observed tomorrow in the country as elsewhere in the world with the theme - "Healthy beginning, hopeful futures".

To mark the day, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and non-governmental organizations working in the field of health have chalked out various programmes.

The World Health Day is a global health awareness day being observed every year on April 7 to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in order to provide the people with a unique opportunity to mobilize action around a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world.

Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus issued a message on the eve of the day, stressing the need for collective efforts from all levels, local and global, to improve the maternal and child health.

Professor Muhammad Yunus said, "More action is needed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate which remains as a major challenge."

"Concerted efforts are needed at all levels, both national and international, to overcome the challenge," he added.

The chief adviser further said that the Health and Family Welfare Ministry has been working tirelessly to improve maternal and child health.

"Various action programmes are being implemented by both the government and private sector. Development partners are working with the government to improve maternal and child health," he added.

To sustain the success of the MDGs, the world leaders have set a goal for implementing SDG by 2030 aimed at ensuring health services for all, the chief adviser said.
