AL activist Saimon sent to jail in Khaleda motorcade attack case

DHAKA, April 15, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail Tejgaon thana Awami League (AL) activist Saimon Hossain in a case lodged over launching an attack on the motorcade of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the city's Kawran Bazar area in 2015.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the end of probe in the case.

Police arrested Saimon from Kawran Bazar area on April 14.

Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia went to Kawran Bazar area in the capital on April 20, 2015, for taking part in election campaign for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayoral candidate Tabith Awal. A group of hooligans attacked her motorcade at the time.

A BNP activist named Billal Hossain filed the case with the Tejgaon Police Station on August 22, 2024.
