DHAKA, April 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced one Anwar Hossain to life imprisonment for raping his stepdaughter repeatedly in 2022 in the city's Hatirjheel area.

Judge Sabera Sultana Khanam of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 pronounced the judgment in presence of the convict and sent him back to jail with conviction warrant.

Anwar Hossain, 29, son of late Hossain Ali of East Sonakhali of Noakhola union under Chatkhil Police Station in Noakhali, married victim's mother, who used to work as a housemaid in Hatirjheel area. 

On August 4, 2022, as the plaintiff went to work, leaving his two children to her husband at home, Anwar threatened the 14-year-old victim, holding a knife on her neck, and raped her.

Anwar raped her for 10 to 12 times from the day to September 2, 2022. Victim's mother filed the case on September 20, 2022. Police on April 1, 2023, filed the charge sheet in the case and the court on August 20, 2023, framed charges against Anwar.

The court today came up with the judgment, examining six witnesses on different hearing dates.
