Ex-IGP Mamun, former lawmaker Jakob remanded in separate uprising cases

DHAKA, April 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan and former Bhola-4 lawmaker Abdullah Al Islam Jakob on different terms of remand in separate cases filed over the crimes committed during the July-August mass uprising.


Of the three, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and Abul Hasan were placed on a five-day remand each in a murder case filed with the Jatrabari Police Station, while Jakob was placed on a three-day remand filed with the Bhatara Police Station.


Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman passed the orders as police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to place Mamun and Abul on a five-day remand each and Jakob on a seven-day remand.


Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was arrested from the city's Uttara area on September 4 while Abul Hasan was arrested from the Teknaf, Cox's Bazar on September 16, 2024. Former lawmaker Abdullah Al Islam Jakob was detained from the capital's Gulshan area on October 1, 2024.
