Ex-MP Nabi Nawaz remanded in July uprising killing case

DHAKA, April 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed Awami League leader and former Jhenaidah-3 lawmaker Nabi Nawaz on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of one Liza Akter in the city's Ramna area during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.

Detective branch (DB) of police arrested Nawaz from the capital on April 11 and he was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on April 13 with seven-day remand prayer. The court on that day adjourned the remand hearing till today as the main case documents did not reach.

According to the case documents, Liza Akter got shot on July 18 and succumbed to her injuries on July 22. Her father Md Joynal Shikder filed the case on September 5 against 174, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
