5 including Jubo League leader arrested in Thakurgaon

Thakurgaon, April 16, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested former Jubo League leader and current UP chairman Matiur Rahman Moti of Hossaingaon union in Ranishankaile upazila of Thakurgaon district early today, in connection with the attack at the police station and another assault case.

Earlier, Momtaz Ali, a resident of Ranishankaile upazila filed the case against the accused Matiur Rahman at the police station.

The plaintiff Momtaz Ali alleged that he was intercepted, physically assaulted and robbed by a group of attackers while riding his motorcycle through the Bargharia Bazar area on his way to Ranishankail Bazar.

The case also accused 11 to 12 individuals, including Matiur, of attempted murder, looting and issuing threats. 

Acting on the complaint, police conducted a raid and arrested the union parishad chairman.

Later, News of Matiur's arrest sparked immediate unrest, with his supporters gathering in front of the Ranishankail Police Station in protest. 

As tensions escalated, police moved to disperse the crowd and detained four additional individuals involved in the demonstration.

The arrested chairman was produced before the court and subsequently sent to jail.
