RANGAMATI, April 16, 2025 (BSS)- The Rangamati district administration has imposed a three-month ban on all fishing activities in Kaptai Lake with effect from May 1.

The restriction also includes the transportation, preservation, and marketing of fish from May 1 to July 31.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Habib Ullah confirmed the decision to BSS, which was extended in a meeting of the Kaptai Lake Management and Steering Committee held today at the   DC’s conference room.

Like previous years, he said, the seasonal ban aims to protect the natural breeding cycle of fish, ensure the healthy growth of fish fry, and boost overall fish production in the lake.

The meeting was chaired by DC Mohammad Habib Ullah also head of the lake management committee.

Manager of the BFDC Rangamati Fish Marketing Centre Commander Md. Fayez Al Karim, Additional District Commissioner Pathan Md. Saiduzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police Nadira Noor, District Fisheries Officer Adhir Chandra Das, and local fish traders including Abdul Shukkur and Mahfuz Alam among others attended the meeting.

To support registered fishermen during the ban, the district administration will distribute food aid (rice) through VGF cards.

Besides, mobile courts will regularly monitor to put in force the ban and prevent illegal fishing during the restriction period.
