DHAKA, April 18, 2025 (BSS) - A team of Mirpur Model Police Station early today arrested a man over mugging of a woman in the city's Shewrapara area on April 15 by threatening her with a machete and snatching her gold chain.

"A team of Mirpur Model Police Station with the help of Gazipur Pubail Model Police Station arrested Imran Khan Sakib alias Shakil, 35, from Pubail area in Gazipur district at around 6.15 am. The motorbike used in the robbing was seized and Taka 2,500 snatched from the victim was also recovered from his possession," a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) release said.

Police said Ongajai Marma, 27, along with his cousin sister was going to their West Shewrapara area's home at around 4.25 am on a rickshaw on the day. At one point, three muggers on a bike stopped and threatened them with machetes. They snatched Ongajai Marma's wallet and a chain from his sister.

The incident was recorded by a CCTV camera nearby and the footage soon went viral. After the incident, police contacted the victims. Later, Ongajai Marma filed a case with Mirpur Model Police Station in this connection.

Police recovered a machete used in the snatching from Monipur area in Mirpur following the arrestee's confessional statement.
