GAIBANDHA, May 19, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a function today said that proper disaster management training for volunteers can significantly reduce the loss of life during emergencies, as well as in pre- and post-disaster periods.

"Training enhances the efficiency of volunteers to work in adverse situations during disasters and helps minimize casualties," they added.

They made the remarks while addressing the concluding ceremony of a seven-day disaster management training programme for members of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) from different college units, held at the auditorium of Gaibandha Government College this morning.

Earlier, Prof Khalilur Rahman, Principal of Gaibandha Government College, formally inaugurated the training on Tuesday as the chief guest.

The training sessions were conducted by Under Officer Prof Abu Sayeed Mondal of the BNCC unit at Gaibandha Government College and Under Officer Prof Most Shirin of Gaibandha Government Mohila College.

A special session was conducted by District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam.

The trainers urged the BNCC members to utilize the knowledge gained from the training during disasters and in their aftermath, to help minimize the loss of lives and damage to property.

Around 100 BNCC members from various government college units across the district participated in the training.
