DHAKA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to freeze nine bank accounts of former agriculture minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, his wife Shirin Akter Banu and daughter Farzana Akter Tanya over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Of the accounts, four were in the name of Razzaque, four in Shirin's name and one was in the name of their daughter Tanya.

Confirming the matter to BSS, ACC deputy director (public relations) Akterul Islam said the commission is probing allegations of amassing huge illegal wealth by extortion, tender manipulation, selling party position and nomination, making money through recruitment, grabbing government land and embezzling state funds.

"The accused may try to transfer or hand over their movable properties to evade justice and that is why their accounts should be frozen," the ACC plea said.

Meanwhile, the court also ordered to freeze four savings certificates and one bank account of Madhabi Debnath, wife of former lawmaker Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu.
