DHAKA, May 21, 2025(BSS) -The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today scrapped a corruption case against BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas for allocating plots for the journalists.

The three-member appellate division bench headed by Justice Jubair Rahman Chowdhury passed the order accepting an appeal submitted by Mirza Abbas and cancelled the High Court judgment.

Senior lawyer Joynul Abedin and Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajol moved for Mirza Abbas.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2014 filed a case against former housing and public works minister Mirza Abbas for his alleged involvement in misappropriation of Taka 15,52,50,900 in allocating Rajuk plots for the journalists.

The then ACC Deputy Director (DD) Hamidul Hassan after completing his investigation on February 11 in 2015 submitted a charge sheet against five persons including Mirza Abbas. Later, the Special Judge Court-4 framed charges against Mirza Abbas and others on October 20 in 2017.

Meanwhile, on December 8, 2016 Mirza Abbas filed a criminal revision suit with the High Court for scrapping the case filed against him. The court on December 14 in that year, stayed the case for three months and issued a rule in this regard. But, the High Court on May 13 in 2019 dismissed the rule, as a result, Mirza Abbas moved an appeal before the Supreme Court against the High Court judgment.
