Six get life imprisonment in Demra Rana killing case

DHAKA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) – A special court here today convicted and sentenced six people to life imprisonment in a case lodged over the killing of one Rana in Demra area in 2009.

The six convicts are- Md Masud, Al Amin alias Alam, Md Babla, Shafikul Islam alias Robin, Jahangir Hossain and Md Monir.

Judge Halim Ullah Chowdhury of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment. It also fined the convicts TK 50,000 each, in default to suffer one more year imprisonment.

According to the case documents, the convicts took Rana to a low lying area,  north village of Shunna Tengra under Demra police station on January 9, 2009, and killed him by indiscriminately hacking and slitting his throat. 

Police later filed the case with the Demra police station. Charge-sheet was filed in the case on October 31, 2009.
