CHATTOGRAM, May 21, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has warned that stern legal action will be taken against those attempting to seize control and create chaotic situation at the sacrificial animals' market during Eid-ul-Azha.

"Some unscrupulous traders resort to the unethical practice of bringing rawhide from surrounding districts into the port city, which leads to a drop in prices. As a result, many hides remain unsold," he said.

"These unsold hides cause environmental pollution and public suffering as well. We must work in coordination with all relevant agencies to prevent disorder related to sacrificial animal skins in the port city," he added.

The mayor made the remarks at a coordination meeting held today at the CCC's temporary office in Tiger Pass. The meeting aimed to ensure the proper preservation and environmentally friendly management of sacrificial animal rawhide.

Dr. Shahadat emphasized that political leaders, the district administration, and Chattogram Metropolitan Police must play active roles in preventing such manipulation.

Chief Executive Officer of CCC Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, Chief Conservancy Officer Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, senior CCC officials, leather traders, representatives from the district administration, Department of Livestock, Department of Environment, Chattogram Metropolitan Police, and other relevant government agencies were present at the meeting.
