Objective journalism requires morality, prudence: AKM Abdul Hakim

KHULNA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) – Press Council chairman justice AKM Abdul Hakim has said it is a must to have moral ethics and prudence for doing objecting journalism.

“Law alone cannot plant the base of objective journalism rather objective journalism requires having responsibility, moral ethics and prudence for a journalist,” the chairman said at a workshop.

He was addressing a workshop titled ‘Preventing Yellow Journalism and Serving Objective News’ as the chief guest at the meeting room of Khulna Circuit House.

The workshop was arranged by Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) to train the local journalists.

The Chairman noted that, as citizens, everyone carries responsibilities toward the country. “We must contribute from our respective positions to work for the welfare of the nation,” he added.

He urged the journalists to follow the Code of Conducts formulated by press council for the journalists and use the facilities to gain information form the public and private organizations using Right to Information (RTI) act.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam presided over the workshop program while Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Julfikar Haider delivered the speech of special guest. Bangladesh Press Council secretary Md. Abdus Sabur addressed the workshop as the resource person.

Journalists from print and electronic media outlets took part in the workshop.
