ACC conducts anti corruption drives at govt offices

DHAKA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) –The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) carried out a series of drives across the country today, unearthing  extensive corruption, bribery, and irregularities at government departments, including  TK 1,600 crore billing fraud in the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).

Acting on allegations of fraud involving TK 1,600 crore, an ACC team from the headquarters conducted the drive at the LGED head office.

The enforcement team questioned the Chief Engineer and several other officials regarding the alleged irregularities and collected essential documents, including records of all projects awarded to the contractor company.

According to ACC sources, the collected evidence will now be investigated before determining the next course of action.

Simultaneously, Integrated ACC district offices conducted drives at union land offices across the country following numerous allegations of bribery, harassment and illegal practices.

A team from the ACC's Jashore Integrated District Office visited the Nehalpur union land office in Manirampur upazila, where they investigated allegations of irregularities.

The team also got information from service seekers that a land assistant officer allegedly charged TK 80,000 for a service which officially requires only TK 19,000.

Another victim reportedly paid TK 4,000 extra for mutation purpose.

In another drive, the ACC’s Jhenaidah Integrated District Office investigated the Nakol union land office in Sreepur upazila, Magura, following reports of corruption and the use of brokers for official services.

In Bagerhat’s Morelganj upazila, the ACC unearthed common practise of  bribery and anomalies at the South Jiudhara union land office.

Officials were allegedly demanding excessive payments beyond the government-fixed rates for services such as mutation, DCR, and Dakhila.
