Shambhu sent to jail

BARGUNA, May 22, 2025 (BSS)- A court here today sent former deputy minister Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu to jail.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Moniruzzaman gave the order as former lawmaker Shambhu was produced before the court in case.

The case was filed on April 30 this year against 158 AL leaders including Shambhu on charge of damaging and setting fire on district BNP office on March 17 in 2023.

The lawyers of Shambhu prayed for his bail saying he was five-time parliament member. But the court rejected the bail prayer and ordered to send him to jail.

A group of pro-BNP lawyers brought out procession against Shambhu in the court area and threw eggs on the prison van carrying him.

Detectives arrested Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu from Dhaka’s Uttara area on November 12 last year.

He was later shown arrested in three cases- one on murder charge with Dhaka’s New Market Thana, one with Ashulia Thana of Dhaka district and third one with Barguna Sadar thana.
