3 accused remanded afresh in DU Shammo murder case

DHAKA May 23, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed three accused, arrested in a case lodged over the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Shammo, on a five-day fresh remand.

The three remanded accused are-- Tamim Hawlader, 30, Samrat Mallik, 28, and Palash Sardar, 30.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order as police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to place them on a seven-day remand each.

Police arrested the accused on separate drives in the city's Green Road and Razabazar areas on May 13, within hours of the gruesome killing. A court on May 17 had placed them on a six-day remand each.

Shammo was a final year student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) and literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).

He was stabbed to death at Suhrawardi Udyan on May 13 last. Shariful Islam, brother of Shammo, filed the case with Shahbagh Police station in connection with the murder on May 14, a day after the incident.
