Barapukuria power plant unit-1 resumes generation

DINAJPUR, May 23, 2025 (BSS) – Unit-1 of 525 MW Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant has resumed generation after two days of closer, official said here today.

The 125 MW unit resumed generation at 12 noon today after necessary maintenance and started power supply to the national grid from 2 pm, chief engineer of the plant Abu Bakkar Siddiqui said.

The unit is producing 70 to 75 MW power below to its 125 MW capacity, he said.

The plant requires 700-800 metric tonnes of coal every day, he said.

Unit-1 of went out of operation in the night of May 21 after leak in the boiler tube.

Production in Unit-2 with 125 MW capacity remained suspended from November 2020 due to mechanical faults.

Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant has another unit with capacity of generating 275 MW power.
