RANGPUR, May 23, 2025 (BSS) - A discussion on 'July Uprising 2024 and Role of Media in Establishing Democracy' organised by the Press Information Department (PID) was held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room here today.

Senior Deputy Chief Information Officer (Press) of PID M Javed Iqbal was present as the chief guest in the discussion.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Rangpur Md Ramiz Alam presided over the program.

Addressing the event, the chief guest said that the roles of the media in the July 2024 uprising were immense.

"The media played an active role in reaching information to the people, forming public opinion and increasing public support for the movement at that time," he said.

Addressing the journalists, he said that such a journalism field must be created in the country where the accountability of all governments is ensured.

He said that the PID has created a photo album of the bloody July uprising on the PID website to commemorate the July uprising. Soft copies of various newspapers from June 5 to August 7 have been stored there. This will be useful for journalists' research.

Regarding the establishment of democracy, he said that democracy ensures the fundamental rights of the people. At different times, people have struggled for democracy. But it has not been possible to fully establish the rights of the people.

For this, he called on media workers to play their role from their respective positions in establishing democracy.
