DHAKA, May 24, 2025 (BSS) - BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's ingenious works to serve as an inspiration for patriotism.

In a message, marking the 126th birth anniversary of Nazrul, he said Nazrul was one of the leading poets, writers, lyricists and musicians of Bangla language.

Tarique Rahman said Nazrul was an uncompromising fighter for equality, justice and humanity and against imperialism and oppression as his write-ups against oppression and injustice were bold and sharp.

"He made Bengali literature rich and timeless. Despite oppression of the colonial rulers, the poet couldn't be stopped from speaking the truth. Even under the wrath of the king, he never gives up on his desire for true and beautiful creations," he said.

"The abundance of creation in his literary life is unparalleled. Although he dabbled in various branches of literature, his main identity is that of a poet. He kept himself engaged in literary practice until he became speechless," he said.

The BNP acting chief said the enthusiasm and spontaneity in his literature have taken on a unique and beautiful form of art.

Noting that Nazrul added a new dimension to Bengali literature, he said Nazrul's writings will be a terror for all tyrannies.

"His poems and songs have conveyed the message of humanity and equality. His writings were a great source of inspiration during our freedom struggle and liberation war," he said, adding, "Nazrul was the first strong voice of independence in the subcontinent.

Besides, his nature, love for humanity and devotional songs, combined with unique and varied melodies and words, create a unique dreamy atmosphere, the appeal of which is eternal and everlasting," he said.
