KHULNA, May 25, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna City unit BNP has undertaken a five-day programme to observe the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman with due solemnity and respect.
Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, founder of the BNP and reintroducer of multi-party democracy, was assassinated on the night of May 30, 1981, at the Chittagong Circuit House by a group of misguided soldiers.
Since then, the BNP has been observing the day as his martyrdom anniversary.
To mark the occasion, Khulna BNP announced a five-day programme from May 28 to June 1, according to a press release issued last night by the City Unit BNP.
The five-day programme includes, on May 28, mourning rallies at all educational institutions in the city, special prayer gatherings (Doa Mahfil), and the publication and distribution of a special supplement on Shaheed Zia.
On May 29, Zia Smriti Pathagar will organize a book exhibition and discussion at Khulna Press Club, focusing on the biography of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman written by Dr. Mahfuz Ullah.
On May 30, black flags will be hoisted and black badges worn at all party offices. A special prayer and mourning rally will be held at the city BNP office, followed by distribution of food (Tabarak) by the BNP's Sadar Thana unit.
Besides, special prayers and food distribution will take place at all mosques across the city. Special prayers will also be held in temples and churches.
A documentary on Ziaur Rahman will be screened through projectors at each Thana office. The Volunteers Wing, an associate body of BNP, will distribute food at Lillah Boarding after Jumma prayers. The Women's Wing will organize a session of discussion, prayer, and clothing distribution. Food (Tabarak) will be distributed by the Farmers' Wing of BNP after Asr prayer.
Free medical camps will be held in all thana BNP offices, a discussion will be organized, by the Nationalist Lawyers Forum in the No.1 hall room of the Bar Association after Zuhr prayers followed by prayers and food distribution, tree saplings will be distributed by the Farmers' wing of BNP in the city on May 31.
