NARAYANGANJ, May 25, 2025 (BSS) - A court in the river port city on the outskirt of the capital today placed its detained former mayor Selina Hayat Ivy on a two-day police remand on a murder charge.

Court officials said Senior Judicial Magistrate Noor Mohsin ordered Ivy to be remanded in custody for two days as police escorted her to the dock with a petition seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation.

Acting public prosecutor Advocate Omar Faruque Nayan told BSS that the former mayor of Narayanganj was accused over the murder of one Minarul Islam during the last year’s student-led uprising that eventually ousted the past Awami League regime.

He said Ivy, who was vice president of Narayanganj district Awami League, had directed party activists to attack the protestors when Islam was killed.

Police arrested Ivy from her residence on May 9 and accused her in the murder case filed with Siddhirganj police station.
