DHAKA, June 15, 2025 (BSS) - In a series of drives led by the Department of
Environment, mobile courts were conducted today in several areas including
Gaibandha, Gazipur, Keraniganj and various parts of Dhaka to curb
environmental law violations related to banned polythene use, air pollution
and noise pollution.
The operations were carried out under the directive of the Ministry of
Environment in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act.
A factory producing banned polythene was raided. Authorities sentenced the
owner to three months of simple imprisonment, seized 8,615 kgs of polythene
and sealed the factory.
Several supermarkets and shops were also issued warnings for using polythene.
Two additional mobile courts were conducted in Pallabi and Adabor areas of
Dhaka for air pollution.
Officials filed four cases, imposed fines amounting to Taka 23,000, ordered
the immediate removal of certain construction materials and warned nearby
institutions.
Meanwhile, three mobile courts operated in Rajbari and Darus Salam in capital
to tackle noise pollution.
Authorities filed 11 cases, fined violators Taka 19,000 and seized seven
hydraulic horns. Drivers were cautioned on the spot.
Another mobile court, also in Darus Salam, addressed emissions of black smoke
from vehicles. Two cases were filed, resulting in Taka 6,000 in fines and
transport drivers received warnings.
