Mustafa Mohsin Montu laid to rest with state honors

DHAKA, June 16, 2025 (BSS) - Veteran politician and one of the organizers of the Liberation War, president of Gono Forum and freedom fighter Mustafa Mohsin Montu was laid to rest this afternoon beside his mother’s grave at Banani graveyard here.
 
The first namaz-e-janaza was held on Sunday night after Isha prayers at Kataban Jame Mosque in Dhaka.

On Monday morning, the second prayer took place at 9:30 a.m. at the Keraniganj Necrozbagh playground. The third was held after Zuhr prayers at Dhaka University Central Jame Mosque.
 
At 2:00 p.m., Montu’s body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar, where people from all walks of life paid their final respects.
 
The Dhaka District Administration provided a state guard of honor in recognition of his contributions to the country and political history.
 
Following the guard of honor, a wide range of political, social, and cultural organizations placed floral wreaths on his coffin.
 
Among those who paid tribute were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Chairperson's Advisor Monirul Haque Chowdhury, Bangladesh JSD President Sharif Nurul Ambia, CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, BSD General Secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Mass Solidarity Movement Chief Coordinator Jonayed Saki, AB Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju and JSD Joint General Secretary Abdullahil Qayyum.
 
The founder and emeritus president of Gono Forum Dr Kamal Hossain paid his respect alongside Gono Forum General Secretary Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Advocate Jaglul Haider Afrik and Advocate Suraiya Begum.

Leaders of the Gono Forum central committee, Dhaka Metropolitan (North and South), Dhaka District Gono Forum and affiliated organizations also paid tribute.
