CHATTOGRAM, June 17, 2025 (BSS) - A Chattogram court today sent former Chattogram Education Board (CEB) Secretary Professor Narayan Chandra Nath to jail on charges of tampering with his son's HSC examination result.
Chattogram Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mizanur Rahman passed the order after the accused surrendered before the court upon the expiry of his four-week anticipatory bail granted by the High Court.
After the hearing, the court rejected his bail plea and ordered him to be sent to jail.
Education Board Secretary Professor AKM Shamsu Uddin Azad filed a case with Panchlaish Thana on January 21, accusing Nath of fraudulently securing a GPA-5 for his son in the HSC examination.
Four persons, including Professor Nath, were named in the case. The other accused are his son Nakshatra Debnath, former Education Board senior system analyst Kibria Masud Khan, and former Board Chairman Professor Mustafa Kamrul Akhtar.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Education ordered criminal proceedings against all involved after a formal investigation.
According to the ministry's findings, Professor Nath played a key role in fraudulently ensuring that his son received a GPA-5 in the 2023 HSC examination.
