Ex-home minister Kamal's brother-in-law to be quizzed at jail gate in murder case

DHAKA, July 4, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered police to interrogate Latif Bhuiyan Kamal, brother-in-law of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, at jail gate for three days in a case lodged over the murder of Pervej Bepari in the city's Badda area during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order as police produced Latif, former chairman of Barura upazila in Cumilla, before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.

Police earlier today arrested Latif Bhuiyan Kamal from a house in the city's Aftab Nagar area.

According to the case documents, furniture-store worker Pervej Bepari, 23, joined anti-discrimination rally in North Badda area on July 19, 2024. The rally came under attack after Jumma prayers and Pervej was brutally beaten by the attackers. They also shot him to make sure his death. Pervej was later rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

Pervej's father Sabuj Bepari filed the case on July 2, 2025, with the Gulshan Police Station.
