Police arrest banned AL leader Imam Bhuiyan

MAGURA, July 6, 2025 (BSS) - Baki Imam Bhuiyan, President of the Magura Municipal unit of banned Awami League, was arrested today. 

He was detained from his residence in the Dowarpara area of Magura town at around 12 noon.

According to police, Bhuiyan is accused of being involved in several sabotage incidents that occurred in Magura and Dhaka during the student movement in July and August last year.

Multiple cases have been filed against him in different police stations in both Magura and Dhaka. He had been in hiding since the fall of the AL government on August 5, 2024.

Md. Ayub Ali, Officer-in-Charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, said that in addition to sabotage cases filed in Magura, Bhuiyan is also accused in a murder case filed at a police station in Dhaka. 

Legal proceedings are currently underway.
