SYLHET, July 7, 2025 (BSS) - The BNP has honoured the family members of martyrs in the July 2024 mass uprising in Sylhet district.

A special commemoration and honouring ceremony was held at a city hotel this afternoon.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir handed over the honour money to the family members of 13 martyrs at the ceremony.

District BNP President Qaiyum Chowdhury chaired the event.

“We have sent away a fascist who killed 2,000 people in just 36 days, countless people under the age of 16 were abducted, thousands of people were maimed, and 20,000 people were killed during the 15 years rule of Awami League. We have been freed from fascism through the sacrifice, blood and struggle of many people in 16 years,” said Mirza Fakhrul.

“We want to build a new, developed and prosperous Bangladesh under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. We must ensure that the families of those who gave their lives in the movement do not feel helpless, that they do not suffer from insecurity. We want to rehabilitate them,” he said.

The BNP Secretary General called for moving forward on the path of democracy through fair and beautiful elections.

“We want a participatory, meaningful election—an election through which the people's government will be established,” he said.
