Five get life imprisonment in a murder case in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, July 10, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced five persons to life imprisonment in a murder case that took place in Madhukhali upazila of the district in 2014.

The court also ordered each of them an additional seven years' imprisonment for destroying evidence and one month's imprisonment in default of a fine of Taka 10,000.

Judge of the 2nd Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Ashok Kumar Dutta handed down the verdict this afternoon in presence of four of the convicts, said Md. Rakibul Islam Biswas, Additional Public Prosecutor of the court.

The convicts are Md. Arman Hossain, Mirza Mazharul Islam Milon, Md. Mamun Sheikh, Asad Sheikh, and Ilias Mridha - all residents of different villages under Madhukhali upazila.

According to the prosecution, Shah Md. Rajan, 28, son of Rafiqul Islam of Madhukhali upazila, went missing on March 27, 2014, after leaving home on his motorcycle. When he did not return, his family members began searching for him.

Four days later, fishermen found his motorcycle in the Madhumoti River near Tarapur crematorium in the upazila.

Based on his mobile call list, police arrested Arman Hossain. During interrogation, Arman confessed that he, along with his associates, killed Rajan.

Following the incident, Rajan's mother Josna Begum filed a murder case with the local police station.

Police later submitted a charge sheet before the court. After examining witnesses and evidence, the court delivered the verdict.
