NAOGAON, July 31, 2025 (BSS)- A skull with horn of a wild buffalo preserved for nearly 185 years have been handed over to the Paharpur Museum here today.

Professor Fazlul Haque, a resident of Kalitola formally handed over the relic to Custodian Fazlul Karim of the Paharpur Museum.

Fazlul Haque said that the buffalo was hunted by Raja Rai Bahadur Harnath Roy Chowdhury of Dubalhati during a visit to his newly acquired Zamindari in Sylhet.

After hunting various animals during his stay, he brought back home the skulls of the hunted creatures, including this wild buffalo’s skull with horn.

Following Raja Harnath's death in 1891, his son Raja Krinkarinath Roi Chowdhury inherited the zamindari. Later, he gifted the buffalo skull to his close friend Zamindar Sakim Uddin Sheikh of Shailkopa village in Shikarpur in 1935.

After the death of Sakim Uddin Sheikh, his son Abdul Gani Sheikh preserved the relic. Upon Gani Sheikh’s passing, his son Professor Fazlul Haque continued safeguarding it in his private collection.

Custodian Fazlul Karim said the relic is a notable acquisition for the museum and will be preserved as part of its historical collection. He added that visitors will be able to witness and learn from such artifacts representing past heritage.

He appealed to individuals who possess such historical objects or antiquities to consider donating them to the Paharpur Museum for public display and preservation.
